Valmet M-62

The next evolution of the Valmet series of weapons was the Model 62.  The Valmet Model 62 was chambered in the 7.62 x 39mm Russian cartridge.

The Model 62 series of weapons utilized a "milled" steel receiver.  Milled receivers are made from a solid block of steel, and machined tothe final product.  Advantages of milled receivers are very high strength and durability, while disadvantages are higher manufacturing costs andlonger manufacturing times.  Machnining of components within Valmetweapons is superb.

The Model 62 will accept normal AK magazines, which is a plus on any battlefield.

This is a Finnish modification of the AK-47, also used by Qatar and Indonesia. Wooden parts have been replaced with other materials, such as the plastic handguard and pistol grip, and the tubular metal folding stock. New sights have been added with tritium inlays, and the weapon has been equipped with a flash suppressor. The M-62 is itself an update of an earlier Valmet attempt at an AKM update called the M-60; the M-62 corrects the numerous flaws of the M-60 that were revealed in trials. The M-62 was later replaced in the Finnish Army by the M-76; Qatar and Indonesia later followed suit.
